diving bells
Sunken air pockets
A diving bell is a chamber, open at the bottom, that traps air as it's lowered underwater, allowing divers to breathe and work beneath the surface.
The trapped air pocket functions like an inverted cup pushed into water.
Early diving bells were simple weighted containers; modern versions connect to surface air supplies.
The salvage crew used a diving bell to reach the wreck.
