frescoing

Wet plaster painting

Frescoing is the art or process of painting on freshly applied wet plaster, allowing pigments to bond with the wall as it dries.

The technique requires working quickly before the plaster sets: The artist spent months frescoing the chapel ceiling.

Frescoing produced some of history's most enduring murals, from ancient Roman villas to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel.
