frameworks
Supporting conceptual structures
Frameworks are underlying structures that support or organize something larger.
In construction, a framework is the skeletal structure—beams and supports—before walls go up.
More often the word describes conceptual scaffolding: a theoretical framework for understanding poverty, a legal framework governing trade.
In software, a framework is a reusable code platform that developers build applications on: We built the app using a JavaScript framework.
The word implies something foundational but incomplete—requiring content to fill it in.
