glean
Harvest bit by bit
To glean is to gather bit by bit, originally by collecting leftover grain after a harvest.
The word now usually describes extracting information or insights from scattered sources: I gleaned what I could from the surviving documents, She gleaned a few details from their conversation.
The gathering is patient and often incomplete—you glean when you can't get the whole thing directly.
