urban foraging

Harvesting metropolitan edibles

Urban foraging is the practice of gathering wild edible plants, fruits, nuts, and mushrooms in cities and suburbs—from parks, vacant lots, sidewalk trees, and other public spaces.

Foragers seek dandelions, mulberries, ginkgo nuts, or whatever grows locally.

The practice combines food gathering with urban ecology awareness: She learned urban foraging during the pandemic and now harvests serviceberries from the park every June.
