exchange student
Foreign school attendee
An exchange student is a student who attends school in a foreign country as part of a reciprocal program—their home institution sends them abroad while receiving a student from elsewhere in return.
The arrangement typically lasts a semester or academic year: She spent her junior year as an exchange student in Japan.
The student usually lives with a local host family.
