duckboard

Planks over mud

A duckboard is a wooden slatted platform laid over wet or muddy ground to provide footing.

The term comes from World War I, when soldiers used them in flooded trenches: We laid duckboards across the worst of the mud.

They're still used in showers, saunas, and anywhere standing water collects.
