Hun
Ancient nomadic invader
Hun refers to a member of the nomadic Central Asian people who invaded Europe in the 4th and 5th centuries under leaders like Attila.
The Huns were feared for their military prowess and helped precipitate the fall of the Roman Empire.
During World War I, Hun became a derogatory term for Germans, playing on their supposed barbarism: The Huns must be stopped. (Lowercase hun is an affectionate term of address.)
