duchies

Realms of dukes

Duchies is the plural of duchy, a territory ruled by a duke or duchess.

Historically, duchies were semi-autonomous regions within larger kingdoms or empires: the duchies of Normandy and Burgundy.

Some persist today as ceremonial titles or small sovereign states: Luxembourg is officially a grand duchy.
