titles

Names of works

Titles are names that indicate rank, office, or distinction: Doctor, President, Duke.

They precede or follow personal names to show status or achievement.

Title also means the name of a creative work—a book, film, or song: What's the title of that movie?

In property law, title is legal ownership or the document proving it: The title to the house was in her name.

In sports, a title is a championship: He's fighting for the heavyweight title.

To title something is to give it a name.
