deflector
Thing that diverts
A deflector is a device or surface that redirects something away from its original path—typically air, water, light, or projectiles.
Cars have wind deflectors, spacecraft have heat deflectors, and science fiction features deflector shields that repel attacks: Raise the deflectors!
The term extends to people who habitually redirect conversation away from uncomfortable topics: He's a master deflector when asked about his past.
