councilors

Local government members

Councilors are members of a council—an official body that meets to advise, deliberate, or govern.

City councilors vote on local ordinances; student councilors represent their peers.

The spelling councilor (American) or councillor (British) distinguishes this from counselor, one who gives advice or guidance.

The councilors debated the zoning proposal for hours.
