lakebed

Silt accumulation site

A lakebed is the bottom surface of a lake—the ground beneath the water.

When lakes dry up, whether seasonally or permanently, the exposed lakebed becomes visible as a flat expanse of sediment, often cracked and dusty.

The ancient lakebed revealed fossils from millions of years ago.

Lakebeds can also refer to the geological formations that remain long after a lake has disappeared.
