castellated
Having defensive notches
Castellated means having battlements—the notched parapets with alternating high and low sections found on medieval castles and fortifications.
The term describes architecture that incorporates or imitates these defensive features: a castellated mansion, the castellated walls of the old city.
Castellated nuts in engineering have notched tops resembling tiny battlements, allowing a cotter pin to pass through.
