priory
Cloistered religious house
A priory is a religious house governed by a prior or prioress, ranking below an abbey in the hierarchy of monastic institutions.
Priories were common in medieval Europe, particularly among Benedictine and Augustinian orders, and many historic buildings bearing the name still stand today as churches, ruins, or converted private homes.
The old priory has been turned into a boutique hotel.
