brake caliper
Rotor-gripping clamp
A brake caliper is the component of a disc brake system that houses the brake pads and presses them against the rotor to slow or stop a vehicle.
When you press the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure forces pistons inside the caliper to squeeze the pads against the spinning disc.
Calipers may be fixed or floating designs: The mechanic said my front brake caliper was sticking.
