tail wheel
Aft landing gear
A tail wheel is a small wheel at the rear of an aircraft, supporting the tail when on the ground.
Aircraft with this configuration—called taildraggers or conventional gear—sit nose-up when parked, unlike tricycle-gear planes with a nose wheel.
Tail wheels were standard on early aircraft and remain common on bush planes and aerobatic aircraft: She learned to fly in a tail wheel Piper Cub.
