chainring

Crank-mounted bike gear

A chainring is the toothed disc attached to a bicycle's crank that engages the chain.

Most bikes have one to three chainrings of different sizes; shifting between them changes the gear ratio.

Larger chainrings make pedaling harder but faster; smaller ones are easier for climbing.

I replaced my worn chainring before the race.
