boomerang
Australian throwing stick
A boomerang is a curved throwing stick, originally an Aboriginal Australian weapon and tool.
Some boomerangs are designed to return to the thrower when thrown correctly—these became popular as toys and sporting equipment.
Figuratively, something boomerangs when it comes back to harm the person who initiated it: His attack ads boomeranged when voters turned against the negativity.
