blipping

Making radar sounds

Blipping is a technique in motorsport where a driver briefly revs the engine while downshifting to match engine speed with wheel speed, preventing the car from lurching or losing traction.

The term comes from the short "blip" of the throttle required.

More loosely, blipping describes any brief, intermittent appearance or signal: The cursor kept blipping on and off, Notifications were blipping across her screen.
