crier

Public news shouter

A crier is someone who cries out—announcing, proclaiming, or calling attention to something.

The town crier was once an official who walked through streets announcing news and proclamations: Hear ye, hear ye!

The role is mostly ceremonial now, though court criers still call courtrooms to order.

More generally, a crier is simply someone who cries or weeps.
