bequest

Will's promised transfer

A bequest is something left to someone in a will—money, property, or possessions transferred after death: The museum received a generous bequest from a longtime patron.

The word can also refer to the act of leaving such a gift.

More broadly, bequest describes anything passed down from predecessors: the bequest of democratic ideals from the founding generation.
