Slimy forest crawler

A banana slug is a large yellow slug native to Pacific Northwest forests, named for its resemblance to a ripe banana.

These slugs can reach nearly ten inches long and play an important role in forest ecosystems by consuming decaying plant matter.

The banana slug is the mascot of UC Santa Cruz.
