radula

Snail's toothed scraper

A radula is the rasping, tongue-like organ in the mouth of most mollusks—snails, slugs, octopuses, and their relatives.

It's covered with tiny teeth that scrape and shred food, functioning something like a cheese grater.

The structure varies enormously across species, adapted to each creature's diet.

Plural: radulae or radulas.
