allosaurs
Large carnivorous dinosaurs
Allosaurs are large carnivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Late Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago.
The name means "different lizard," reflecting early paleontologists' recognition that these predators differed from previously discovered dinosaurs.
Allosaurs were apex predators with powerful jaws, sharp teeth, and short arms with clawed hands.
The singular is allosaur or allosaurus.
