stegosaurs

Armored Jurassic reptiles

Stegosaurs are a group of plant-eating dinosaurs from the Jurassic period, characterized by rows of bony plates along the spine and spiked tails.

The most familiar is Stegosaurus, with its distinctive diamond-shaped back plates.

The name means "roofed lizard," from early speculation that the plates lay flat like shingles.
