Zionists
Jewish state supporters
Zionists are advocates of Zionism—the movement supporting Jewish self-determination and a Jewish homeland in the historic Land of Israel.
The term emerged in the late 19th century with Theodor Herzl's political movement.
Since Israel's founding in 1948, Zionist has shifted to mean supporters of Israel's continued existence as a Jewish state.
Critics of Israeli policy sometimes use Zionist as a pejorative, and antisemites have long used it as a euphemism for Jews generally: The Zionists control the media.
Many Jews embrace the label; others reject it on religious or political grounds.
