Labor Zionism

Kibbutz movement ideology

Labor Zionism was a movement combining Jewish nationalism with socialist ideals, dominant in Israel's founding and early decades.

Labor Zionists believed Jews should return to Palestine and build a new society through collective agricultural work and manual labor, rejecting what they saw as the passive, commercial life of diaspora Jews.

The kibbutz movement embodied these principles.

Labor Zionism shaped Israeli institutions until the late 1970s, when it lost political dominance to the right.
