Vitis vinifera

Common wine grape

Vitis vinifera is the common grape vine, the species responsible for nearly all wine production worldwide.

Native to the Mediterranean and Central Asia, it has been cultivated for thousands of years and now grows in temperate regions across the globe.

The species includes thousands of cultivated varieties—Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and table grapes alike.

The vineyard planted three acres of Vitis vinifera last spring.
