tendrils

Climbing plant feelers

Tendrils are the thin, curling growths that climbing plants use to attach themselves to surfaces or other plants: The vine's tendrils wrapped around the trellis.

By extension, anything thin and curling may be called a tendril—wisps of smoke, stray locks of hair: Tendrils of fog crept through the valley.
