Boa constrictor
American crushing snake
A boa constrictor is a large snake native to Central and South America that kills prey by coiling around it and squeezing until the animal suffocates.
Unlike venomous snakes, constrictors crush rather than poison.
The term extends to anything that squeezes or constricts: Traffic was a boa constrictor around the city center.
