Tibetans

High plateau dwellers

Tibetans are the indigenous people of Tibet, a high-altitude plateau region in Central Asia now largely under Chinese control.

The term covers both those living in Tibet and the diaspora communities that formed after the 1959 uprising and the Dalai Lama's exile.

Tibetan culture is strongly associated with Buddhism, mountain adaptation, and distinctive traditions in art, medicine, and monasticism.

Tibetans have lived at extreme altitudes for thousands of years.
