Kurds

Stateless Middle Easterners

Kurds are a people native to a mountainous region spanning parts of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria—an area sometimes called Kurdistan.

They share a distinct language (Kurdish) and cultural identity but have never had an independent nation-state, making them one of the world's largest stateless ethnic groups.

The Kurds in northern Iraq have achieved significant autonomy.
