butter sculpture
Sculpted spread at fairs
Butter sculpture is the art of carving figures or designs from blocks of butter, typically displayed at state fairs and agricultural exhibitions.
The medium requires refrigerated cases to prevent melting.
Life-sized cows, political figures, and pastoral scenes are common subjects: The Iowa State Fair unveils a new butter sculpture each year.
