lama

Woolly Andean camelid

A lama is a Tibetan Buddhist monk or spiritual teacher, especially one of high rank.

The Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama are the tradition's most prominent figures.

The lama led the monastery's meditation practice.

Not to be confused with llama, the South American animal—one L for the monk, two for the beast.
