halakhah

Talmudic legal ruling

Halakhah is the collective body of Jewish religious law derived from the Torah, Talmud, and rabbinic tradition.

It governs daily life, ritual practice, ethics, and civil matters—everything from dietary restrictions to Sabbath observance to business conduct.

Orthodox Jews follow halakhah strictly; other denominations interpret it with varying degrees of flexibility.

Also spelled halacha.
