Hadith

Islamic oral traditions

Hadith refers to the collected sayings, actions, and approvals attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, forming a primary source of Islamic law and guidance alongside the Quran.

A single report is a hadith; the entire body of such reports is the Hadith.

Scholars classify individual hadiths by reliability: a sahih (authentic) hadith, a weak hadith.

Much of Islamic practice—from prayer details to dietary rules—derives from Hadith rather than Quranic text.
