Kent State

Ohio campus tragedy

Kent State refers to Kent State University in Ohio, but more commonly invokes the 1970 shooting where National Guard troops killed four unarmed students during a Vietnam War protest.

The incident became a symbol of government overreach and the dangers of militarized response to dissent: The campus crackdown felt like Kent State all over again.
