Scottish clan
Tartan-wearing kinship group
A Scottish clan is a kinship group sharing a common surname, territory, and ancestry—real or legendary—in the Scottish Highlands.
Clans were historically led by a chief and identified by distinctive tartan patterns.
The system declined after the 18th-century Jacobite rebellions but persists culturally: She traced her roots to the MacLeod clan.
Today, clan membership is largely ceremonial, celebrated through Highland games and genealogical societies.
