trews

Plaid Scottish pants

Trews are close-fitting trousers, especially those made of tartan cloth as part of traditional Scottish Highland dress.

The word is chiefly British and somewhat old-fashioned: He wore full Highland regalia, including trews instead of a kilt.

In casual British usage, trews sometimes just means trousers generally.
