Pascal

Pressure unit namesake

Pascal is a programming language developed in the late 1960s, designed for teaching structured programming and data structuring.

Named after the mathematician Blaise Pascal, it was widely used in computer science education through the 1980s and 1990s: I learned to code in Pascal before moving to C.

Pascal is also a French surname, most famously borne by Blaise Pascal, the 17th-century mathematician, physicist, and philosopher known for his work on probability, hydraulics, and religious thought. (Lowercase pascal is the unit of pressure.)
