boolean

Two-valued logic type

Boolean refers to a system of logic using only two values—true and false, or 1 and 0.

Named after mathematician George Boole, it underlies digital computing and programming: a boolean variable, boolean operators like AND, OR, and NOT.

In code, a boolean stores whether something is true or false: The function returns a boolean.

Often lowercased in programming contexts. (Also spelled Boolean.)
