Ministry of Truth
State censorship bureau
The Ministry of Truth is the propaganda arm of the totalitarian government in George Orwell's novel *1984*, responsible for falsifying historical records to match the Party's current version of events.
The name is deliberately ironic—the ministry produces lies.
In contemporary use, Ministry of Truth describes any government agency or effort perceived as controlling information or rewriting facts: Critics called the new disinformation board a Ministry of Truth.
