Room 101
Worst fear personified
Room 101 is a place of ultimate horror, where one faces what they fear most.
The term comes from George Orwell's novel *1984*, where the torture chamber contains each prisoner's worst nightmare.
It has become shorthand for any dreaded place or unbearable situation: Public speaking is my Room 101.
In British pop culture, it names a TV show where guests consign their pet peeves to oblivion.
