Pravda

Kremlin's official paper

Pravda is Russian for "truth," known primarily as the name of the official newspaper of the Soviet Communist Party from 1918 to 1991.

The paper served as the voice of state ideology, making *Pravda* synonymous with propaganda disguised as journalism.

The name carries heavy irony given the paper's role in Soviet censorship: Reading Pravda for the truth was like reading tea leaves.

The paper still exists in various forms, though without its former influence.
