Tolkien

Tolkien refers to J.R.R.

Tolkien (1892–1973), the English author and Oxford professor who created modern fantasy literature with *The Hobbit* and *The Lord of the Rings*.

His invented languages and mythologies set the template for the genre.

As an adjective, Tolkien or Tolkienesque describes elaborate fantasy worlds with their own histories, races, and languages: The game has that Tolkien feel with elves and dwarves.
