apparatchik
Blind bureaucratic follower
An apparatchik is a member of a political organization who follows orders without question—originally applied to Soviet Communist Party functionaries, now used more broadly for any bureaucratic loyalist who prioritizes the organization over principle.
The word carries contempt: The mayor surrounded himself with apparatchiks who never challenged his decisions.
Plural: apparatchiks or apparatchiki.
