Pearl Buck

Pearl Buck was an American novelist who spent much of her early life in China, which shaped her most celebrated work.

She won the Pulitzer Prize for *The Good Earth* (1931), a novel depicting Chinese peasant life, and became the first American woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Her writing brought Chinese culture to Western audiences during an era of limited cross-cultural exchange.
