Mount Rainier
Seattle's volcanic backdrop
Mount Rainier is a massive stratovolcano in Washington State, the highest peak in the Cascade Range at over 14,000 feet.
Its glaciated summit dominates the Seattle-Tacoma skyline and serves as a landmark for the Pacific Northwest.
The surrounding national park draws climbers and hikers: We could see Mount Rainier from downtown Seattle.
Often called simply Rainier or the Mountain by locals.
