Challenger Deep

Deepest ocean point

Challenger Deep is the deepest known point in the ocean, located in the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific.

At nearly 36,000 feet below sea level, it represents the extreme limit of oceanic depth.

Named after the HMS Challenger, whose 1870s expedition first measured it.

Only a handful of crewed vessels have reached Challenger Deep.
